INTERNSHIP AND SEMINARS
INTERNSHIPS IN INFORMATION SCIENCES
General objective
ESAN/Cendoc offers internships aimed at professionals in information sciences and library and/or information center staff, with the purpose of strengthening and updating their knowledge in specific areas of library management. These internships aim to contribute to the improvement, optimization, or renewal of the procedures that participants apply in their respective workspaces.
Methodology
The internship is conducted through an on-site training program, which includes lectures and interactive sessions led by the professional staff of ESAN/Cendoc. The methodology is based on observation visits and practical learning, aimed at direct knowledge of library processes and services.
Requirements
To apply for the internship, the following requirements must be met:
- Complete the internship application form.
- If working in a library and/or information center, present a letter from the immediate supervisor certifying the position held in the institution.
- Assume the responsibilities related to the development of the internship, which include:
- Payment of the registration fee at the beginning of the internship.
- Punctual attendance at scheduled sessions.
- Completion of the assigned activities and tasks.
Content
The internship addresses the following thematic areas:
- Development of specialized collections: Explanation of the complete process, from acquisition to registration and control of bibliographic resources in an automated library system.
- Information analysis: Guidance on the use of bibliographic description standards and classification systems.
- User service: Guidelines for proper user service, operation of the Circulation and Loan area (registration in the loan control system), as well as the design of information services and products.
- Use of information technologies: Update on technological innovations applied to libraries. Training in the use of subscription bibliographic databases from ESAN/Cendoc and other technological tools, such as the discovery tool, repositories, among others.
Duration and economic investment
- Duration: 15 hours, distributed over 3 days.
- Investment per participant: S/ 350.00, an amount that must be paid at the beginning of the internship.
ESAN/Cendoc reserves the right to evaluate and accept applicants, as well as to coordinate with the applicant in advance the dates for the internship.
SEMINARS-WORKSHOPS IN LIBRARY SCIENCE AND INFORMATION
General objective
ESAN/Cendoc offers libraries and/or information centers that need to improve or update their procedures a series of seminars-workshops aimed at their professional and technical staff. These activities aim to strengthen the competencies of the work team and implement management systems oriented toward the continuous improvement of institutional performance.
Methodology
The seminars-workshops are conducted by the professional staff of ESAN/Cendoc and are developed thru didactic talks and participatory sessions. To maximize results, intensive and interactive work between speakers and participants is promoted, allowing for the consolidation of concepts, sharing of experiences, and application of acquired knowledge.
Requirements
To access the seminars-workshops, the interested institution must:
- Send a formal request to the ESAN/Cendoc Management, indicating the thematic block of interest (see Thematic Blocks).
- Fulfilll the administrative and economic responsibilities associated with the development of the seminar-workshop.
Thematic blocks
ESAN/Cendoc has structured the content into key thematic blocks for library management, which are:
- Administration of information units: It addresses the functions and responsibilities of the staff in information units in the processes of planning, budgeting, control, and evaluation of library management.
- Human factor: It focuses on the management of internal human resources and the understanding of external users, recognizing their fundamental role in service provision. It includes guidelines on the librarian's profile, user characteristics, and the design of effective services.
- Information retrieval: It includes topics on descriptive cataloging according to current standards, indexing and classification systems, as well as the documentary process and information retrieval techniques.
- Technological tools for libraries: It presents experiences in the use of technological resources and online services, such as subscription databases, information discovery tools, and software for remote access to resources.
- Resources and tools for academic and scientific research: It offers recommendations for the preparation and writing of research papers, the use of bibliographic citation styles, and guidelines for effectively searching for information in open access sources.
Duration and economic investment
- Duration: The seminar-workshop takes place over a period of three (3) days. The distribution of hours is coordinated in advance between the ESAN/Cendoc Management and the requesting institution.
- Additional costs: The travel expenses of the professional staff from ESAN/Cendoc in charge of the seminar-workshop will be covered by the requesting institution.
